Bombay: Complete Crew list for 1864
The crew of the Bombay on the 1864 voyage From London to Auckland, taking so many passengers that will settle in Bombay as part of the Waikato Immigration scheme and the ancestors of so many New Zealanders today consisted of a Captain, three mates, twenty one seamen, three apprentices, several other ranks and a Surgeon. Crew are as per below, and in known order of rank.
If anyone can help deciphering the handwriting from the Ships Log, your valuable input would be greatly appreciated.
Crew List.
1.George Sellars. Ships Captain.
Born on the 24th of August, 1814 in Dundee, County of Forfar, Scotland.
Captain Sellars worked his way up from a Apprentice, Seaman, Mate, and master before becoming Captain, working out of Dundee then later Sunderland.
Besides commanding the Bombay 62-66. Captain Sellars commanded other notable ships including the Electra 69-73 and Zealandia 74-82, before being appointed Ships Husband in London in 1882.
