160 Years of the arrival of the Bombay

It has been close to 10 years since I have embarked on this adventure to research the voyage of the Bombay and just like the actual voyage of the Bombay, it has been a trying and exhaustive journey full of trials and tribulations.

At the start of this year, I had set my mind on not renewing this site and closing it down… Cost and time being a huge factor.

However, the actual expiration date for this hosting site and domain falls by coincidence or divine intervention on the exact day our ancestors arrived to Auckland…. The 18th of March 1865.

So in short I simply could not bring myself to close this site, and over the past weeks thinking about what I would choose to do… I have now found myself with renewed energy and enthusiasm to see my two projects reach fruition…

And that is…

-To publish a Historical record of the voyage of the Bombay and her passengers

So that families and future generations for many years to come may never forget their ancestors and origins.

-To publish a Historical Fiction novel exploring the harrowing and dangerous sea voyage, and the events that led up to so many families making the agonizing decision to leave their friends and families behind to travel to the furthest reaches of the British Empire.

So let us celebrate on March the 20th our ancestor’s arrival, and stay tuned over the next weeks, months and years as this website gets updated and hopefully, I will have two books to share…

    Have been looking for the graves of my ancestors that arrived on the Bombay . Henry Wooderson 1818 -1878 and Susannah Wooderson 1812 -1871. Said to be buried at the Karangahape cemetery but a motorway has gone through there so maybe the graves were moved.

    Their daughter Harriet Wooderson was 9 on arrival and is the grandmother of Sir Edmund Hillary

      Hi I have tried to see if there was a location online for them, it seems like they could still have the grave at the location, or they were put in a communal concrete sarcophagus which should have their names on at the Cemetry, so would still be worth a visit, perhaps you can update us?
