John Parker was aged 42 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. John was born in 1819 in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England, and christened on the 4th of April.

John’s mother was Eleanor Pheasant and Henry Parker who worked as a Tailor, John followed his father in Tailoring but by 1861 was a Gamekeeper.

John married Elizabeth Bland on the 12th of April,1842 in Bourne. On arrival to Auckland the stayed the night in Ponsonby, while those settlers that could not afford to do so went on to the Onehunga Barracks. Two children Mary and Leeson stayed in Onehunga looking for work, while the rest of the family caught a barge to Drury, then to Williamson Clearing.

Leeson sadly died shortly after arriving, but the family will clear the land and build farm houses. The Parker family will contribute to the new community and by 1896 John and Elizabeth will be farming 50 acres.


John died from Senile Exhaustion on the 20th of September,1904 in Onehunga at Waikaraka Cemetery.

Elizabeth Parker (Maiden name Bland) was aged 46 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Elizabeth was born on the 12th of April,1814 in Ryhall, Rutland which is just South East of Bourne, Lincolnshire to parents William Bland and Hannah Sharman.
Elizabeth died on the 7th of December,1895 in Bombay.
John and Elizabeth’s known children are:
William Henry Parker. William was born in 1843 but did not travel on the Bombay, remaining in England and marrying Sabrina Daubney on the 8th of August,1869
Mary Elizabeth Webb. Mary was born on the 25th of June,1844 and married William Thomas Webb on the 29th of December,1868.
Leeson Thomas Parker. Leeson was born in 1847, but died soon after arriving in Auckland on the 2nd of May,1865.
John Henry Parker. John was born on the 22nd of May,1849 and married Margret Sturgeon on the 25th of February,1875. Margret Sturgeon was a passenger on the Bombay.
Catherine Ann Piggott. Catherine was born on the 1st of October, 1851 and married James George Piggott in 1869. James in the younger brother of Bombay passenger William Charles Piggott.
Mary Elizabeth Parker was aged 20 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Mary was born on the 25th of June,1844 in Rutland, England and was christened on the 21st of July.

Mary married William Thomas Webb on the 29th of December,1868 in St Peter’s Anglican Church, Onehunga. Saint Peter’s was one of the earliest Church’s in Auckland, having been built in 1848.

William was born on the 24th of June,1845 in Langley Marish, Slough Buckinghamshire to Sarah Mason and Richard Webb.

Richard worked as a Agriculture Worker and was charged with manslaughter in 1843 but was found not guilty.

William died from Influenza on the 5th of October,1907 and Mary on the 28th of March,1918, with both buried at nearby Waikaraka Cemetery.

Ellen Elizabeth Wallace. Nell as she preferred was born on the 26th of June,1870 and married Joseph Wallace in 1891.
William Henry Webb. William was born on the 22nd of May,1874, but died six days later.
Lillian Catherine Leaming. Lillian was born on the 7th of March,1876 and married George Henry Leaming on the 11th of November,1891.
Arthur Edward Webb. Arthur was born on the 10th of August,1878 and married Edith Eliza Rose on the 19th of November,1900.
Emma Edith Strong. Emma was born on the 1st of April,1881 and married John Taylor Strong on the 17th of September,1900. Emma died from Dropsy on the 23rd of April,1918 and John from a Gastric Ulcer two months later.

Ivy Blanche Caines. Ivy was born on the 12th of August,1884 and married Richard Joseph Caines on the 4th of May,1908.

William Alfred Webb. William was born on the 24th of December, 1885 and married Sarah Hughes in 1901.
Harry Webb. Harry was born on the 12th of December,1887 but died on the 9th of January the following year.
Lionel Basil Norman Webb. Lionel is the adoptive son of John and Elizabeth and is the illegitimate son of Ellen (Nell). Lionel was born on the 27th of August,1888 and married Daisy Elrick on the 11th of May,1912. Daisy is the daughter of her aunt Catherine Ann Parker and her second husband John Alexander Elrick.

Leeson Thompson Parker was aged 18 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Leeson survived the voyage of the Bombay, but died shortly after arriving to New Zealand, in about April,1865 in Onehunga, Auckland from Cebritis and Fever. He had stayed with his sister to look for work in the settlement while the family had travelled south to Williamson’s Clearing.
Below is a letter written by Reverend A G Purchas on behalf of John Parker, to the Crown, asking that his deceased son’s land be placed in his daughter’s name, Mary Elizabeth Webb. Leeson was entitled to 10 acres as part of the Waikato Immigration Scheme as he was 18 years old at the time of sailing.

John Henry Parker was aged 15 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. John was born on the 22nd of May,1849 in Lincolnshire. John will go on to marry fellow Bombay passenger Margret Sturgeon on the 25th of February,1875. Margret was 9 years old at time of travel.

John will go on to be a involved in local affairs including several local committees and getting a Slaughterhouse License. In August,1895 the Parker home will burn down, but thankfully they had insurance to the value of £285.


John died on the 7th of June,1920 and is buried at Pokeno, Margret died on the 14th of March,1937.

Catherine Ann Parker was aged 14 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Catherine was born on the 4th of October,1851, and married James George Piggott on the 7th of June,1869.

James was born in London on the 30th of May,1842 to Lucy New and Solomon James Piggott and is the younger brother of fellow Bombay passenger William Charles Piggott. James died on the 10th of January,1882 in Bombay.

Catherine remarried to John Alexander Elrick on the 19th of January, 1887. John was born in Scotland in 1837 to Ellen Wilson and James Elrick, and possibly in the Militia.
Catherine died on the 13th of December,1898, and John on the 20th of May,1904.
Catherine and James’s known children are:
James Henry John Piggott. James was born on the 27th of May,1870 and married Fanny Swinnerton Rigby (Camwell) in 1907. Fanny was married to Austin Wright Rigby who died in 1903.

Elizabeth Eleanor Norton. Elizabeth was born on the 30th of March,1872 in Bombay and married Walter Norton on the 6th of June,1889.
Edward William Piggott. William was born on the 23rd of August,1874.
Rosalind Lucy Bruce. Rosalind was born on the 2nd of January,1876 and married Douglas Benjamin Bruce in 1906.
Lionel Parker Piggott. Lionel was born on the 18th of May,1878 and married Harriet Murtagh on the 31st of December,1913.
Ernest Piggott. Ernest was born on the 11th of May,1880 and married Kate Sharp on the 20th of Febuary,1907. Ernest had a industrial accident in 1939 resulting in losing a arm.


James George Piggott. James was born on the 16th of June,1882 but died the same day.
Catherine Margaret Piggott. Catherine was born on the 16th of June, 1882 and married Francisco Jones, son of fellow Bombay passenger Alfred Jones on the 4th of Febuary,1904. Catherine was bequeathed her grandfather’s John Parker property in Bombay. Catherine was charged, convicted and fined £25 for attempted suicide in 1902.


Catherine and John’s children are:
Daisy Webb. Daisy was born on the 15th of October,1887 and married Lionel Basil Norman Webb on the 11th of May,1912. Lionel Basil is the son of Daisy’s aunt Mary.
Lilly Bland Haddon. Lilly was born on the 29th of December,1889 and married Fredrick Haddon in 1912.
George Parker was aged 21 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. George is not thought to be related to above.
William Partridge was aged 19 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. William was born in 1845 in Devonshire, England. William was a farmer and came as a recipient of the Waikato Immigration Scheme, and was allocated ten acres. William subsequently purchased 116 acres of virgin bush in Paparata and cultivated it as a dairy farm.

William married Elizabeth Gee on the 13th of July,1876, in Drury. Eliza is daughter of Thomas Gee and Harriet Miles, of Paparata Elizabeth was born in 1854 in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, England.

Mr. Partridge served for a number of years on the local school committee and served in the Razorback Militia Volunteers, and the Drury Light Horse, and was part of the expedition which went to intercept Te Kooti.

William died on the 17th of October,1918, and Elizabeth on the 21st of May,1937.

William and Elizabeth’s known children are:
Harriet Elizabeth Landon. Harriet was born on the 19th of October, 1876 and married John Edward Landon in 1897, John is the child of fellow Bombay passengers William Landon and Harriet Wootten.
William Partridge. William was born on the 15th of December,1877. William was a farmer near Bombay and served in WW1 with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, C Company (45286).

Elias Partridge. Elias was born on the 18th of July,1879 and married Maggie Ruston on the 27th of September,1911. Elias served in the Boer War as a Corporal with the NZ Mounted Rifles 7th Contingent, 22 Company (4202). Elias died on the 16th of November,1919 from the Flu Pandemic.


James Sydney Partridge was born on the 26th of October,1888. James served in WW1 with the 30th Reinforcements, Auckland Infantry Regiment (60191).

Arthur Ernest Partridge. Arthur was born on the 28th of October 1892. Arthur served in WW1 with the 4th Reinforcements, Auckland Mounted Rifles (13/937) and was wounded at Gallipoli. Arthur married Constance Lucy Leek on the 5th of January,1921.

Walter Pattison was aged 23 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay.
William kept a journal of the voyage.
Charles W Parson was aged 23 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay.
Fredrick Perry was aged 28 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Fredrick was born in Devon in 1836 and married Rhoda Snoswell.
It is possible that Frederick died soon after arriving on the 1st of July, 1865.
Rhoda Perry (Maiden name Snoswell) was aged 26 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Rhoda was born on the 18th of July,1839 in Deal, Kent to Boatman James Snoswell and Matilda Walker.

After Fredrick died Rhoda married Charles Forbes Vince in Auckland on the 5th of May,1869. Charles was born in Yarmouth, Hampshire and had joined the Royal Navy at the age of 15, by coincidence Charles served on HMS Curacoa the ship that rescued the Bombay, but had transferred some years early to HMS Miranda during the Waikato War, Charles took part in land conflicts in the Waikato and at Gate Pa.

In 1864 HMS Miranda was ordered back to England and Charles stayed behind, eventually settling in Lyttelton working as a Customs Officer, Mate on the Gazelle and Captain of a Mail Packet.

Rhoda died on the 12th of July,1912 at 37 Smith’s Rd, Christchurch, and Charles on the 9th of April,1924. Charles was accorded a military funeral, with a gun carriage taking his remains to Woolston Cemetery.

Sarah Melvina Perry. Sarah was born in 1861.
Rhoda and Perry’s children are:
Alice Balfour: Alice was born in 1873 and married Gerald Henry Balfour before moving to Sydney.

Sarah Melvina Perry was aged 3 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Sarah was born in 1861 in Deal, Kent.
Sarah died in 1949 in Sydney.
Thomas Perry was aged 22 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Thomas was born on the 16th of March,1840 in Hockworthy, Devonshire to Mary Barker and William Perry. William was first married to Elizabeth Lutley in 1828 and then when she died married Mary on the 18th of July,1932. By 1861 William was a farmer on 53 acres.

Thomas married Eliza Jane Logan on the 16th of January,1867, Eliza was from County Tyrone, Ireland, she had traveled as a single women on the ship Dauntless and had arrived in May,1865. Eliza was the daughter of John Logan and Esther Magahey. Thomas and Eliza settled in the Williamson Clearing, later renamed Bombay area to farm.

Eliza died on the 27th of October,1900 in Bombay and Thomas died on the 6th of August,1909, and is buried at Bombay Presbyterian Cemetery.

Thomas and Eliza’s known children are:

John Thomas Perry. John was born on the 7th of November,1867 in Newton, Auckland, and married Amelia Reilly on the 10th of August 1901 in Parnell.

John had a finger amputated after it was smashed in a cuff-chatting machine in 1894 and was murdered in his sleep at home in Ramarama on the 25th of September,1915. His wife was accused of the murder, but not convicted.

Mary Ann Flay. Mary was born on the 31st of August,1871 and married William John Flay on the 10th of October,1894. William is the son of Bombay passenger Charles Flay.

Esther Ellen Elizabeth Rimmer. Esther was born on the 26th of January,1873, and married Fredric William Henry Rimmer in 1896, Esther died on the 27th of November,1898 and Fredric married Esther’s sister.

William Henry Perry. William was born on the 10th of March,1876 and married Ada Annie Porter in 1923. William worked as a Farmer and Saw-miller.
Eliza Jane Perry. Eliza was born on the 6th of June,1878. Eliza first married her late sisters husband Fredric, on the 39th of December 1899. Fredric absconded from the marriage and possibly moved to Canada and Eliza partnered with a William James Collins.
William Charles Piggott was aged 25 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. William was born in London on the 4th of May,1839 to Soloman James Piggott and Lucy New.
William married Elizabeth Parsons on the 18th of August,1860. The family will settle in the Williamson Clearing later renamed Bombay area to farm on lots 127 and 129.
William’s brother James also travelled to New Zealand and also settled in Bombay and married fellow Bombay passenger Catherine Ann Parker.
William died on the 3rd of December,1911 and is buried at Avondale Cemetery, Auckland.
Elizabeth Piggott (Maiden name Parsons) was aged 24 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Elizabeth was born in London in the Saint Luke’s area in 1839.
Elizabeth voted in the 1893 General Election, making her one of the first women in the world to vote.

Elizabeth died on the 8th of August,1926 and is buried with her husband in Avondale Cemetery.

William and Elizabeth’s known children are:
William Charles Piggott. William was born in 1861 and married Mary Ann Canham on the 15th of March,1893.
Elizabeth Anna Dynes Griffiths. Elizabeth was born on the 23rd of June,1864 and married a William Charles Griffiths in 1885.
James Solomon Piggott. James was born in 1866 and married Lucy Carter on the 21st of October,1896. Lucy is the daughter of Jacob Carter and Rebecca Turner, who came on the ship Durham in 1873, Jacob is the brother of Bombay passenger Henry Carter.

Lucy Harriett Lucas. Lucy was born in 1869 and married George Fredrick Lucas on the 3rd of September,1904 in Australia.
Susan Emma Cock. Susan was born in 1871 and married Richard John Cock in Bombay, on the 19th of July,1899.
Agnes Amelia Stedman. Agnes was born in 1875 and married Alfred John Stedman in 1902.
John Rowland Piggott. John was born in 1876.
William Charles Piggott was aged 3 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay.
William married Mary Ann Canham on the 15th of March,1893 and worked as a Bank Officer, they will live in the Ellerslie area of Auckland.

Mary was born in Auckland on the 17th of January,1871 to Johanna and Harry Canham of Ipswich, England. Harry and family had came to Auckland in June,1861 on the ship Mersey. In later life Harry ran costal shipping between Auckland, Thames and Hawkes Bay.

Mary died on the 2nd of November,1937 and William on the 2nd of May,1952.
William and Mary’s known children are.
Dorothy May Piggott. Dorothy was born on the 24th of September 1894. Dorothy worked as a typist and was given sole possession of her fathers assets on his death. It is not thought Dorothy married.
William Henry Piggott. William was born on the 16th of April,1895. William served in WW1 with the 1st Battalion, NZ Rifle Brigade (5/379) and married Agnes Bergstrom Cooper in 1920.
Leila May Flynn. Leila was born in 1897 and married Patrick Flynn in 1922.
Elizabeth Piggott was aged 5 months old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Elizabeth married William Charles Griffiths in 1885.
Elizabeth’s and William’s known children are:
Ivy Lucy Maxwell. Ivy was born in 1899 and married Thomas Alfred Maxwell in 1911.

Jane Prior was aged 24 years old at time of registering passage for the Bombay. Jane was born on December the 18th,1841 at Rogate, Sussex to John Prior and Sarah Porter, her father was a Agricultural Labourer.

Jane also had a sister on-board the Bombay, Harriet who had married Henry Evans. Jane married fellow Bombay passenger William Vince in 1866.
William and Jane settled and farmed in Bombay. William was a gardener and established a orchard growing a wide range of fruits including peaches, plums and grapes, as well as farming wheat, oats, barley and maize.
Jane voted in the 1893 General Election, making her one of the first women in the world to vote.
William and Jane celebrated a Golden Wedding in 1916, but William died a year later on the 1st of October,1917, reaching the age of 85. Jane will also pass reaching 85, on March the 25th,1925, she will be buried at Saint Peters Church, Bombay.
Jane and Williams known children are:
William John Vince. William was born in 1867 but died on the 1st of November,1892. William had been a bushman and had died from drinking contaminated water while clearing bush in Tuakau.

Sarah Jane Billing. Sarah was born on the 21st of May,1868 and married Henry Billing in 1888, however Sarah died on the 26th of August,1891 aged just 23, leaving her new born baby and infant child to be raised by her parents Jane and William. The new born named Charles grew up to serve in WW1 (12/2212) but was killed at Gallipoli.

Harriet Elizabeth Hood. Harriet was born on the 30th of November 1869, and married Alexander William Hood on the 16th of October, 1901.
Caroline Rothery. Caroline was born on the 30th of July,1871 and married James Rothery on the 21st of November,1906.
Charles Henry Vince. Charles was born on the 16th of December 1872 and married Rose Rowena Walker in 1908. Charles died on the 26th of November,1918 from the Influenza.

George Vince. George was born in 1875 and married Florence Farrer in 1907.
Ernest Edward. Ernest was born in 1881 and married Jessie May Flay in 1907. Jessie is the daughter of fellow Bombay passengers Hebert James Flay and Helen Ann Caie.
Lily Helena Townsend. Lily was born on the 20th of October,1887 and married Robert Henry Townsend on the 9th of June,1909.
