Very kindly provided is a copy of a original map detailing locations of where families from the Bombay had there allotted land… Now just the task of felling bush by hand, building shelter for families and surviving.

  1. What a splendid find! Thanks for sharing. I can make out the Great South Rd running up the western extremity and the corner where it tends NNE west on Parker’s land… and can then infer the Paparata Rd running east from there. I can also see Barber Rd and Wootten Rd intersecting Paparata Rd. Just brilliant!!

    1. Scott! I had a brainwave, and used NZ archives to locate George Wootten’s Farm, at lots 100,101 and 103. You’ve probably seen it in your travels, but on the off chance you haven’t title record is at https://collections.archives.govt.nz/web/arena/search#/entity/aims-archive/R25518411/george-wootten-of-bombay%2C-farmer—allotments-100%2C-101%2C-103-settlement-of-maketu%2C-suburban-sec-2-parish-of-opaheke?q=Wootten&source=aims-archive

      Neither Barber Road or Lowry Rd go all the way through, but as best as I can find, the road access would be around the modern address of 177 Barber Road.

      6. We are! Your Joseph Enoch is Harry’s Uncle. Harry J Wootten’s father is George Wootten, Joseph E and George came out on the Bombay together, both sons of Joseph senior and his wife Coney Fennell.

      1. Yes, we traded some emails a while back. I’m a great, great grandson via Harry Jessup Wootten and his daughter Beryl Constance (my grandmother).
